Sunday Supplement

Yesterday marked the start of what may be a very strange season, when a BHC side took to the field for the first time since lockdown in a friendly at Ben Rhydding, so this felt like a good point to start with the regular Sunday morning update. We won , 6-3 against a blended BRHC 1’s and 2’s – what great way to start a season.

Here’s what we know about the likely pattern of getting back to hockey:

BGGS

Thanks to all who have worked on the documentation and processes we need to have in place to meet the required conditions from EH and BGGS to get back on the pitch. The school have now cleared us to resume training and game play within covid guidance and restrictions, but will not grant us access to the toilets. Lesley is kindly looking into portaloos (!) as an option.

TRAINING

Our intention is to return to training imminently (this week or next, watch this space). It was fairly apparent from yesterday’s game that stick and ball skills come back pretty quickly, though lung and muscle capacity takes a little longer, so to reduce the risk of muscle tears or respiratory difficulty, the sooner we can offer training the better.

PLAYER SIGN UP

The majority of players have signed up through the EH Participation link, though there are a few missing. I’ll email squad leads separately with lists so you can do a bit of chasing up of those still to sign up.

Return to Play

RETURN TO PLAY (FINALLY!)

BGGS have accepted our return to play plans and we are very happy to say that training will resume on Tuesday 22nd September for seniors and Friday 25th September for Juniors. Due to Bradford’s ongoing status as a high-risk area training and games will look slightly different, details on training are below and match-day details will follow once Yorkshire Hockey have confirmed a date for league play to resume.

The main points to be aware of are:

– Senior training will run on a Tuesday and Thursday with anyone able to attend on either night, the pitch will be split into four groups to allow for socially distanced training. Due to the area having ongoing additional restrictions, each group will be limited to 8 players and groups will not change over the session (see below).

– Sessions will run from 7-8pm and 8-9pm on each night to allow for flexibility and to accommodate as many players as possible. In line with EH guidance, you must book sessions in advance and indicate your preference of night & time e.g. Tuesday 7-8pm/Thursday 8-9pm (if you wish to train for two hours please do say, however be aware there may be nights where it is not possible to do so). This will be reviewed as the situation in Bradford changes.

– Please arrive in good time before your session as changing rooms will not be open, social distance as per Gov. guidelines when not on the pitch and wherever possible use only your own equipment. On arrival a one-way system is in place (see below)

– To begin with sessions can be booked by contacting me with the information above by email (Daniel.stubley@gmail.com) or via Facebook messenger. We are exploring booking apps which tie in with EH’s track & trace guidelines to simplify the process! We appreciate that things will look and feel slightly different, however safely returning to play is our priority and we hope to see you all back on the pitch soon!

Team News on friendly with Ben Rhydding

The first hockey match for Bradford Hockey Club starts this Saturday with the first team travelling to Ben Rhydding. A new coach for the 1st team and some of our young and upcoming players getting a run out it should be an entertaining game.

We also have a development team game starting after the first team game, this is a great opportunity for our younger players to experience playing with adults. So many players through the years has benefited from playing in this team. If you are ever free adults could you offer your knowledge of the game to these players by helping out.

The players will be following a strict Covid-19 protocol which will see bibs allocated to each player and face masks for penalty corners designated to players. There will be no spitting on the floor or exchanging words with the umpires.

Having said all that the rivalry is still there and the lads are pumped up to get one over on our arch enemies.

If you know anyone who would like to sponsor the club, a team or the website we have a lot to offer. We are hoping to get some more sponsors so we can improve our website and club as we move forward. If you do please point them in my direct and we can see what we can do.

Please check out our website over the next few weeks for updates. Going forward we will be using the website and Bradford Hockey Club Facebook page. We will be using the senior and junior page for more in house club stuff.

Bradford Hockey Club would like to send their good wishes and support to all our members during this time of social distancing and self-isolation.We send our grateful thanks to anyone who is working in the key industries, and especially any of our members or their families who are working in health provision. You are our heroes, and should know that you are deeply appreciated. So to all of you, whether you are providing an essential service, working from home, self-isolating, social distancing, or are at home from school or university, please take care of yourselves and your families, and we look forward to seeing you all on the other side.

England Hockey suspends national hockey activity until 30 June 2020

England Hockey has today taken the decision to suspend all hockey activity until 30 June 2020.

Currently hockey activity is suspended until April 15 but, with the continuing social restrictions caused by Covid-19, this extension is pragmatic in the circumstances and provides clarity for our clubs, players, officials and volunteers. We have asked that this national position is replicated at a local level by counties, leagues and independent hockey providers.

It is hugely disappointing to curtail hockey activity in this way and there will be many league and cup competitions which will not now reach their natural conclusion. The implications of the decision affect different areas of England Hockey activity in different ways, details of which can be found below.

Finally, the health and wellbeing of those in the hockey community is our overriding concern so please follow the government guidance and stay safe. Please search #StayInWorkOut on social media for tips on how to stay active indoors.

Suspension of hockey activities

England Hockey and Yorkshire Hockey have suspended all hockey activity until April 15th at the earliest to prevent coronavirus. As a result, training on Tuesdays, Thursdays and junior training on Fridays will, sadly, be suspended until further notice.

EXTRAORDINARY GENERAL MEETING

At the direction of England Hockey, Bradford Hockey Club needs to revise it’s constitution to bring it in line with current legislation. There will be an extra-ordinary general meeting held on Monday 23 March 2020 at 7.00 pm at the New Inn, Thornton, in order to agree this revised document. All club members are invited to attend this meeting.

Big Thank You
